Using asphalt resurfacing products is a fantastic way to make your pavement last longer and look great. However, knowing what these products do and how they work can ensure that your next asphalt resurfacing project will be as close to a professional job as possible.
When you decide to resurface it is imperative that you thoroughly prep the asphalt before beginning the resurfacing process. The first thing that you will need to do is to completely clean and dry the asphalt. Take a wire brush and vigorously clean the area. Brushing this way will ensure that any dirt, debris, and dust is removed from the pavement. The wire brush will also loosen any dirt and debris that may have adhered to the asphalt. After the dirt and debris have been cleaned and loosened from the surface, you need to take a pressure washer, or if you don’t own one, a garden hose will also work, and spray the entirety of the driveway. Spraying the driveway will wash away all the dirt that is left over from the wire brush. Once the pavement has been thoroughly washed and cleaned, allow the driveway to completely dry, and you will be ready to move on to the next step.
Next, you need to ensure that any cracks and potholes that are on the driveway are filled and patched. To fill cracks, first just clean the areas as you would from the above information, then you need to take the crack filling product, which may come in a tube or a pourable form and begin filling the crack. Taking the asphalt resurfacing products, you need to apply the fill inside of the crack, ensuring that the fill comes into good contact with the sides of the crack for maximum adhesion. After utilizing the filling product, smooth over the crack and allow the fill to cure.
Regarding potholes, you will need to use a product known as a cold patch. First, you will need to chisel the area until the pothole is shaped into a square, this will allow the cold patch to adhere to the sides of the asphalt correctly. After squaring the hole, use the cold patch product and fill the pothole. Once the pothole is filled with patch, using a tamper, pound down the cold patch until it is flush with the rest of the pavement. Make sure that the cold patch is robust, and safe to drive on before moving on to the final step.
Asphalt Resurfacing Products
Finally, utilize the asphalt resurfacing products such as sealcoating to finish off your driveway. Taking the asphalt resurfacing products, you need to apply an even coat to the pavement and subsequently use a squeegee to smooth out the product until you have a complete, even finish to your asphalt.
