Different Forms of Seal Coat Supply

Seal coat supply is the most important item in every single seal coating project. However, understanding the differences between each of the available types of seal coat supply will allow you to ensure that you obtain the best product and achieve the best finish you possibly can.

Seal coat supply can come in a multitude of different forms including asphalt emulsion, coal tar sealer, fast drying sealer, and acrylic sealer. Each of these types of seal coat supply will provide comparable protections and preventions to your driveway. However, each of these seal coats will also come along with their unique advantages and disadvantages. Some of these benefits and their disadvantages may include the seal coat supply’s effect on the environment and local area, their ability to be applied in certain weather patterns, and of course their price and availability.

Seal Coat Supply

Asphalt emulsion is a form of seal coat supply that is relatively low-cost and is also widely available at most hardware stores and home improvement centers such as Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Menards. This type of seal coat supply is also known to be a bit more on the environmentally friendly side as compared to other forms of sealer. However, this seal coat is harder to apply in cooler and damper weather conditions and climates.

Coal tar sealer is another type of seal coat supply that is relatively low-cost and can be better applied in cool and damp climates as opposed to asphalt emulsion. This material is made by utilizing a byproduct of coal known as coke which is made through a process in which the manufacturer bakes coal. However, this process of baking coal means that the resulting coal tar sealer has some detrimental effects on the environment. These harmful effects have caused the supply to become less available because Home Depot and Lowe’s have both stopped selling this product, and both Minnesota and Texas have banned the usage of this seal coat supply.

Fast drying sealer is a seal coat supply that is very useful for application in high traffic areas. As a result, this sealer is seldom used by homeowners and s usually used by professional contractors. Because of the sealers fast drying nature, it can come with a higher price tag and is not usually available at most hardware stores.

Acrylic sealer is a form of seal coat supply that is relatively environmentally friendly and posts an increased lifespan as opposed to the other sealers. However, because of these benefits, the seal coat is also a bit more expensive, though the increased lifespan may outweigh the initial cost.
